Pitta Dosha Basics

In Ayurveda, there are 3 main body-mind constitution types, or Doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
If you have taken the Dosha Quiz and you primarily chose (B)'s, your Dosha is Pitta.
-
Pitta is comprised of the elements Fire & Water.
Main qualities associated with Pitta dosha are: Hot, Sharp, Oily, Liquid, and Pungent.

People of Pitta nature are direct, intelligent, passionate and driven. They can make great leaders. They enjoy an element of competition. They are organized, goal-oriented, and are go-getters. Physically, Pitta individuals are medium build and can put on muscle fairly easily. They tend to run hotter on body temperature, so staying in a hot environment can aggravate them. They can have sensitive skin prone to acne or rashes. They have strong digestion and do not like to miss their meals. When pitta's fire is too high, they can have issues with acidity, nausea, or loose bowels.

When under stress, Pitta types tend to become critical or impatient. They can lose their temper and get angry.
When in balance, Pitta people are strong and courageous.

Dietary Tips:
Because of the higher amount of fire qualities in their nature, Pitta doshas can gravitate towards spicy/pungent foods. Most pittas love their spicy food! These foods can actually aggrevate Pitta qualities and create an imbalance in the body and mind. Foods that are sweet, cooling, and soft are balancing for Pitta doshas. Sweet fruits, coconut water, aloe vera, grains with ghee, are all good options for Pitta individuals.
Choose foods that are natural and wholesome. Freshly cooked is always a better choice than left-overs, canned foods, or processed foods.
To balance the Pitta nature remember to have more of Sweet, Bitter, and Astringent flavors, and have reduced amounts of Pungent, Salty, and Sour flavors.
